At Family Care Australia (FCA), we aim to make you totally at ease with the services we offer. In doing so we are providing you with this easy to understand Financial Services Guide. It is designed to answer your frequently asked questions. If you'd like more information or clarification, please don't hesitate to contact us.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) require us to issue retail clients with a Financial Services Guide, before we provide any advisory services. Our Financial Services Guide (FSG) is designed to assist you in deciding whether or not to use the service offered. It contains information about remuneration paid to us and what to do if you have a complaint about our services.

The key purpose of the FSG is to tell you:

  1. What we do:
  2. How we charge: and
  3. Who to contact if you are unsatisfied with our service.

At FCA, we provide General Advice and Factual Information on readily available insurance options or arrange cover for those of our clients who know what they want, particularly value their privacy, or both. Your details will not be given to third parties to forward advertising material to you. However, you may receive documents required by Law such as Product Disclosure Statements ("PDS").

Q. Who are we ?

A. Family Care Australia (FCA) is an Australian Financial Services Licensee under the Corporations Act. We are authorised to arrange and advise on a range of life risk insurance products. Our discount Life Insurance Broking Service enables us to pay cash rebates to our clients subject to medical acceptance and conditions.

Our business is based on arranging competitive solutions to your identified needs. We are often able to source comparable alternatives at a better price. We may effect your instructions through one of a variety of widely available retail products from our selected Life Insurers.

Because we are committed to the professionalism of our industry we are a member of the Association of Financial Advisors (AFA) and the Financial Ombudsman Service Limited (FOS). We also subscribe to the Life Insurance Brokers' Code of Practice.

Q. Who is responsible for the advice I receive?

A. FCA will be responsible for any General Advice or Factual Information requested by you. Our office staff is competent and experienced professionals who will work with you to arrange suitable cover.

Q. What Financial Services are available to me ?

A.
FCA will provide you with Factual Information and/or General Advice about the products available. This means that we do not take into consideration your personal circumstances, financial situation or objectives.

Therefore you will need to assess if the product is appropriate for you. FCA can also assist you with applying for, acquiring or varying or disposing of life insurance risk products. The range of life insurance products includes term life, income protection, trauma or critical illness, business expenses cover, mortgage and debt protection policies.

Essentially, this means that you can contact us for general advice on or assistance with:

  • Applying for a new insurance policy
  • Renewing your insurance or comparing prices on insurance products with your existing insurer and what we can arrange
  • Increasing or varying your insurance cover
  • Arranging risk management insurance against your mortgage or other financial liabilities
  • Lodging a claim with the insurer


Q. What levels of advice are available to me ?

A. Many of our clients simply rely on FCA to provide a quote or implement their instructions by arranging or changing cover. In these circumstances, such as when you deal with us over the internet or on the phone, we will be providing you with General Advice and Factual Information on a Life Insurance product. There is no additional Brokers' Fee for this service. FCA does not charge Personal Advice Fees for its services. Because we have not considered your specific needs or financial circumstances, you'll need to consider whether the level of advice we provide is appropriate for your needs and circumstances. In order to be able to provide you with quotes, we'll need you to provide us with certain information about your situation. We'll also need you to fully disclose information about the risks to be insured when you provide information to be passed onto the insurer. FCA will not analyse or screen this information.

Q. What is my duty of disclosure ?

A. It is important that you understand your obligation to provide the insurer with all the information they require to make an informed decision about the risk you want to insure. To assist them to assess the risk and the appropriate premium, the law requires you to disclose all the information you know, or should know, that is relevant to the insurers decision whether to provide cover or determine the terms of cover. For example, you should disclose your type of occupation, personal habits, or medical history of losses or claims. Your failure to disclose relevant information may void your cover or prejudice any claim so it is important that you are as open and honest as possible.
